Eight years ago, the print and media services provider Mohn Media rebuilt its advertising brochure product line. Today, Dirk Kemmerer, CEO of Mohn Media and Digital Marketing of the Bertelsmann Printing Group, sees the brochure business as one of the company’s most important mainstays.
Books by Mohn Media are now available in the U.S. as well. The Gütersloh-based printing house produced the memoirs of the “Beastie Boys,” for Spiegel & Grau, a Penguin Random House imprint. This is its first major contract in the United States and at the same time a testament to good internal collaboration at Bertelsmann.
When publishers from across the globe come together for their big reunion in Frankfurt every year, the service providers for the publishing industry are not far away. At a joint booth in hall 4 on the trade fair grounds, the Bertelsmann Printing Group and Arvato offer insights into the bandwidth of their solutions that support publishers with bringing books to the shelves of retailers and into the hands of readers – from conception, consulting, and material design, to printing, refinement and shipping. IT services and digital applications are also taking up an increasing amount of space in the range of services.
Our industry is full of rules and acronyms. Where do we learn these things to optimise the printed product and avoid disappointing results? It used to be that all print professionals went to print school or maybe served time as assistant in the buying office. Nowadays marketing and production teams cover such a wide range of tasks in their daily work. In addition to that, production teams in publishers are learning about printing on the go.
Mohn Media in football fever: Not long after Éder had scored Portugal’s winning goal, lorry loads of hot-off-the-press copies of the Euro 2016 book began to leave our site in Gütersloh, headed for the German market. Once again, Mohn Media proved that it is a real champion when it comes to producing books about major sporting events.
For two days this summer, Nuremberg was the dialogue marketing capital. From 29 to 30 June, CO-REACH, a trade fair for cross-media marketing, provided insights into the latest trends and tools for interlinking traditional and digital advertising channels.
Most of us have had enough of water recently – thanks to the torrential rain we’ve been having. But it clearly didn’t put off the organisers of this year’s apprentice graduation ceremony, who were determined to give the apprentices a good soaking. According to an old custom, printers who have successfully completed their training need to have the “dust from their apprenticeship washed away”. Our industry has observed this tradition for centuries. And we never just wait for the next rain shower.
At this year’s drupa, the higher education institutions that teach printing and media technology had a shared stand called ‘Campus Avenue’, supported by Mohn Media. Together they presented their study programmes and research projects in the areas of green printing, functional printing, intelligent packaging, 3D printing and digital media.
